A total logistics contract to transport a large amount of mining equipment from China to Western Australia, overseen by Trans Global Projects’ Perth office, has now been completed.

Located in a remote area and serviced by a particularly congested port, the mission required carefully considered organisation to ensure the timely delivery to the mine of some particularly heavy and oversized modules. This involved forward-planning to cope with up to 42-day berthing delays at the port, as well as the timely arrangement of permits for a rolling road block along a lengthy single-lane carriageway. The size of the convoys and the sizeable amount of regular traffic density on the route meant the road could only be travelled at night.

A total of 10 heavy lift vessels were chartered from Tianjin in China to Port Hedland, Australia, for the first part of the project. The modules were then transported to an inland laydown area before being loaded onto 27 convoys to travel the final 500km by road.

Further support provided by Trans Global Projects included marine survey reviews and the establishment and management of offices and contractor accommodation at the mine site. Strict health and safety and quarantine regulations were continuously upheld.

All modules arrived on time with no safety issues or major incidents.

Several months of detailed planning have resulted in the successful delivery of a critical Pre-Assembled Unit (PAU) for a leading North Sea oilfield operator.

The PAU, a suphate removal package, was shipped from Tonsberg, Norway, to Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, for installation on a major offshore platform under construction at a fabrication facility in the free zone area.

Weighing 305mt, the 19m high, 20m long PAU was shipped on a specifically selected and chartered heavy lift ship.

Prior to shipment, extensive co-operation between the fabricator and the client’s structural engineers, together with the ship owner’s engineering department, produced a highly effective stowage and sea-fastening arrangement, which met both the structural capacities of the PAU and fully satisfied the need for effective load spreading and restraint on board the ship.

A significant feature of the operation was the ship owner’s co-operation in fulfilling shallow water depth conditions at the loading berth in Norway followed by a direct voyage of only 22 days.

Upon arrival at Jebel Ali, the extensive sea-fastenings were removed followed by a heavy lift discharge operation direct to self-propelled modular trailer (SPMT) for the onward movement of the PAU into the fabrication yard. The entire lifting and delivery operation was concluded safely and without incident over a period of five hours.

The shipment, part of an ongoing logistics management contract for two entire offshore platforms, was planned and managed by Trans Global Projects’ specialist heavy lift chartering and operations department in the UK.

A US$3.3 billion, 70,000bpd North Sea oil and gas project, for which Trans Global Projects has been providing worldwide logistics services, achieved a significant milestone as planned this month.

The load-out operation of the project’s 4,685mt wellhead deck from the fabrication yard to a semi-submersible vessel was successfully performed in Jebel Ali Port, United Arab Emirates.

Trans Global Projects’ role in helping its client, a leading North Sea oil operator, to achieve the load-out in accordance with a strict project schedule, started in the last quarter of 2011, when the company was awarded a multi-million dollar contract to perform all logistics requirements for the construction of two bridge-linked platforms comprising an offshore process, utilities and quarters decks, and the aforementioned wellhead deck.

As well as the worldwide shipping of all materials and equipment to the UAE, Trans Global Projects operates a 10,000 square metre warehouse in the Jebel Ali Free Zone Area to facilitate the efficient onward delivery of material to the nearby main fabrication yard for the project. Trans Global Logistics’ excellence in the on-time management and delivery of all project material and equipment contributed significantly to the wellhead deck’s scheduled load-out being achieved.

The scope of work on the project has also included the shipment of thousands of tonnes of steel fabrication to yards in Netherlands and the UK.

Transportation of construction material and equipment for the overall project is expected to be completed in 2014.

Trans Global Projects’ has won a number of major contracts within the North Sea area, enhancing the company’s expertise and extending its experience in the challenging, fast-track North Sea environment.
